Lower HERS® Score. Greater Efficiency.
The HERS® (Home Energy Rating System) Score is the nationally recognized standard for measuring a home’s energy efficiency. The lower the score, the more energy-efficient the home.
A certified third-party energy rater evaluates each home using specialized software and on-site testing. The score is calculated based on:
- Insulation levels and air sealing
- Window and door performance
- Heating and cooling system efficiency
- Ductwork design and leakage
- Water heating systems
- Overall home size and layout
- Blower door testing to measure air infiltration
The home’s performance is compared against a reference home built to standard code. A score of 100 represents the reference home. Every point lower than 100 reflects a percentage improvement in energy efficiency.
